This unit has been designed to be used in two main ways: teacher guided or student driven.
Teacher Guided
In a computer lab, an LCD projector can be used to go through the PowerPoint tutorials, while the students use their own computers to carry out the demonstrated activities contained within the tutorial. The teacher becomes the guide and matches the pace of the students and offers assistance should it be needed. The following steps can be used as a guide:
1. Prior to lesson, teacher should download and savePowerPoint presentations to desktop for instant access*. Activity sheets can also be pre-printed for quick distribution, and smooth classroom management.
2. Set up the teacher computer with an LCD projector and screen. Ensure all students have a clear view of the screen, and the use of a computer with access to the Internet.
3. The teacher should start their Internet program to access the online resource page at: http://www.tompsonsolutions.ca/masters *
4. Start at Section One in pink, select Lesson1. The students watch the tutorial, while recreating the screen shots and results on their own computers as so directed.
5. Remind students to complete the activity sheet which accompanies each Lesson.
5. Download additional tutorials to use, along withh the accompanying activity sheets.
*A CD is available containing all web pages, PowerPoint tutorials and worksheets should access to the Internet be restricted..
Student Run
Students download the desired PowerPoint tutorial from the online main resource page. They then watch the tutorials at their own pace, using their own computer. The teacher needs to ensure that each student has their own computer, along with Internet acccess and Powerpoint software. The students should then be given an activity sheet and the following instructions.
1. Turn on your computers and launch the Internet Program (Explorer, Netscape...)
2. Go to the following address http://www.tompsonsolutions.ca/masters
3. Discuss as a class the purpose of the unit.
4. Direct the students to begin by going to Section One, in Pink and starting at Lesson One.
5. Students will then work through the tutorials, and activity sheets at their own pace.
